Description
Starfield. Optical image of a starfield in the constellations of Cygnus (lower frame) and Cepheus (upper frame). The bright star at lower right is Deneb (Alpha Cygni) and to the left of it the North America nebula (NGC 7000) is visible as a faint, red nebulosity. The North America nebula is found at a distance of about 3000 light years; it consists of a cloud of hydrogen ionised and lit up by a hot star found within it. The brightest star in Cepheus is Alderamin (Alpha Cephei), seen at upper right almost straight up vertically from Deneb. At upper centre, below and to the left of Alderamin, the large but faint nebula IC 1396 is seen.
